Here's the situation I found myself in: a client approached me about building an AI tool for content creation, but they wanted to validate demand first. Smart move, right?

Their initial plan looked textbook perfect. They'd identified "content creators" as their target market—specifically bloggers, social media managers, and freelance writers. They created detailed personas, crafted screening surveys, and started recruiting through Facebook groups and LinkedIn.

Three weeks in, they had 12 beta signups. The screening process was brutal: only people with 1+ years of content creation experience, active social media presence, and willingness to provide detailed feedback. They were proud of the "quality" of their beta pool.
